What ages do you see?
Currently I am holding sessions for ages 18+.
What can I expect during the first session?
Typically during the first session, we begin working together to identify what you want to accomplish during your time in therapy. We will discuss what possible techniques might be helpful for you to reach those goals. I will also inquire about some of your history to begin identifying the framework and patterns of what might be feeding and supporting your challenges. This can begin to give us insight into how to start making shifts in your life. Please come as you are, and I will provide guidance. However, let me know if there is anything you want me to know. You are always in control, and this space and time are for you.
Does therapy really work? Isn't it like talking to a friend?
Yes, therapy creates change in lives! The therapist-client relationship is different from confiding in a friend (Although please keep confiding in your friends. We all need strong social networks!) We know therapy is effective due to years of evidence-based research that provide consistent results reporting that therapy really works. There are a wide range of techniques and therapies, and counselors are trained to know how to use them. I promise not to waste your time with chatting and I am committed to working in session.
How long will I need therapy?
The length of time being in therapy varies for each person. We are all individuals with different ways of internalizing, processing, and managing our lives. There are good reasons for why clients experience challenges! In most cases, behaviors, beliefs and how we move through the world were born out of need and care for self, during a particular time in life. We will work together to discover how these learned ways of being are still needed, how to more effectively care for self, and gain healthy patterns for being in present life. The timeline for this discovery is different for everyone.
How do payments work?
I understand payment can be a difficult topic. I want to be as transparent as possible, and will be forthcoming in times that it needs to be addressed.
I currently accept insurance from United Health Care, Optum, and Humana. My current out-of-pocket fee is $175. If not using insurance, you may request a Superbill that you submit to your insurance provider. They decide reimbursement. I do reserved some slots for sliding scale. Please ask if you are in need of financial assistance.
I require a credit card on file and payment due at time of session.
How are you handling COVID protocol?
If you are having any symptoms of illness or have possibly been exposed, please reschedule your appointment. If you are having mild symptoms and would like to keep your session, I kindly ask that we use telehealth.
If you would like to meet in person and are more comfortable using masks, I am happy to accommodate. I am regularly sanitizing commonly used office surfaces.
"To go in the dark with a light
is to know the light.
To know the dark, go dark.
Go without sight,
And find that dark, too, blooms and sings.
And is traveled by dark feet and dark wings."
